Types of Funds
The Community Foundation has a wide range of funds that you may donate to:
Donor Advised Funds are one of the most flexible funds and allow donors to recommend eligible charitable recipients for grants from their fund. These funds can be established by individuals, families, companies or as a rollover from a private foundation. For more information please contact us.
Designated Funds are established by a donor as a restricted endowment fund that is held by The Community Foundation to specifically support a single, identified agency or program.
Field of Interest Funds allow donors to designate a specific cause or geographic area for grant making without having to name a specific organization.
Agency Funds are funds established by a nonprofit organization to provide a vehicle for donors to support endowments for long term support of the agency. Contributions to these funds come from donors as well as from the organization themselves. Donations for the individual endowment funds must be designated by the donor.
Scholarship funds allow donors to give the gift of education to an area student. Scholarships can be established either through direct donations or in honor of a loved one.
Our GIVE360 program is a giving circle program that was initiated by The Community Foundation in 2015 as a way to make philanthropy easy for any resident of McHenry County as an introduction to philanthropy for less than $1 per day.
Our unrestricted Fund is what we use to fund our annual grant cycles. Each year nearly 100 nonprofit agencies across McHenry County complete an application and review process to receive an annual competitive grant from The Community Foundation. Contributions to this fund offers donor the opportunity to support their community without identifying a specific program or interest. If you would like to donate to this fund, please click here.
Our operational fund is the engine that keeps the Community Foundation going. By contributing to this fund, you are helping the Foundation grow faster and help us become a sustainable and permanent presence here in the community in order to help improve the quality of life for all of McHenry County. In addition to supporting the day to day operations of the Foundation, this fund also provides educational and training opportunities for professionals in the nonprofit community, as well as individual donors across the county.
