Executive Director, The Community Foundation for McHenry County

The Community Foundation for McHenry County (The CFMC) is a key contributor to the economic, social and environmental quality of life in McHenry County, Illinois. The CFMC has a substantial financial endowment and manages the distribution of over $1.5M of incremental investment in the county’s non- profit sector each year. The organization has a strong board, capable staff, and a good reputation. The board believes the organization can grow by driving visibility and awareness, implementing new financial tools that will attract charitable investments, and taking a lead role in coordinating multi-agency efforts that directly address long-term county needs.

We are seeking an energetic and experienced Executive Director for our organization. The successful candidate will have:

  • Strong leadership skills, with a proven ability to create a positive team culture

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Demonstrated knowledge of applicable corporate and regulatory best practices

  • Track record of effective fund development/fundraising

  • Strategic thinking with a vision for the future

  • Strong analytical skills to provide financial and operational oversight

  • Proven ability to develop and execute financial strategies

  • Passion for our mission and the community we serve

It is recommended, but not a requirement, that the candidate have an existing active network of stakeholders throughout McHenry County to accelerate the organization’s progress.

Responsibilities
The successful Executive Director will fulfill the following expectations:

  • Collaborate with The CFMC Board of Directors to identify, create and implement strategic plans to execute targeted organization objectives.

  • Identify, recruit, train and develop a talented team of employees who can lead critical departments and manage strategic organizational functions (grant management, donor growth and maintenance, marketing and communications)

  • Monitor company operations and ensure employees and organizational practices comply with regulatory and legal requirements.

  • Develop the organizational culture and promote transparency and collaboration throughout the organization.

  • Develop deep partnerships and maintain relationships with county stakeholders, non-profit leaders, local business leaders, financial planning organizations and donors as well as other relevant parties.

  • Identify potential risks and opportunities within the organization and its environment to protect The CFMC interests.

  • Identify potential sources of investment and organize fundraising efforts.

  • Represent the company at social and corporate events in ways that strengthen our organization’s brand and communicate our message.

  • Maintaining consistent and open communications with The CFMC Board of Directors concerning organizational activities, accomplishments, and challenges.

Job Qualifications
Minimum qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree, with proven record of job advancement in leadership positions

  • Five years of organizational leadership experience

  • Substantial and relevant experience with non-profit organization regulations and challenges

  • Current primary residence in McHenry County, or willingness to relocate if chosen
