The Community Foundation for McHenry County is pleased to announce the opening of our 2026 Funding Cycle. As part of our continued commitment to responsive and strategic grantmaking, we have refined our structure to create a more streamlined, annual process. Beginning in 2026, we will host one competitive funding cycle per year using a universal application and simplified grant categories.
2026 Timeline
- Application Opens: February 23, 2026
- Application Closes: April 10, 2026 at Noon
- Awards Announced & Distributed: June 2026
Types of Requests Accepted
Organizations may apply for:
- Unrestricted Operating Support
- Restricted Program Support
- Capital Projects
- Organizational Capacity Projects & Initiatives
To simplify the process, organizations may submit multiple funding requests through one universal application. Each request will be reviewed individually within a competitive process, while also considering overall organizational strength, demonstrated need, and potential community impact. Organizations may receive no more than two awards per year (excluding Emergency or Community Crisis grants).
Eligibility
Applicants must:
- Be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, unit of local government, government department, or educational institution
- Demonstrate direct and significant impact within McHenry County
- Be established for at least three years
2026 Funding Cycle Walkthrough Sessions
CFMC will host two in-person informational sessions to walkthrough the 2026 funding cycle and application process. Organizations only need to attend one session and are asked to please send one representative from their organization. Sessions will be held on March 9 and 16 from 10:30 AM–12:00 pm. Registration is required.
